Following My Bliss?

An extremely enjoyable activity I’ve recently been engaging in has given me a cause for pause to ask some deep questions of myself. Have my urges to partake in this activity arisen from my lower ego, or are they urgings from my higher self and spirit? The conclusion I've come to is this; If an activity we engage in truly causes us a profound level of well-being and enjoyment, and results in a feeling of expanded consciousness and greater self-love, it is undoubtedly one that is being heralded by spirit as something we should pursue, thus in choosing such an activity I am in fact, Following My Bliss!

I've recently been involved in a debate on a spirituality forum. A young man who uses the handle of "kamalkat" with very strong convictions started a thread insisting that “women are biologically predisposed to bear children and as such cannot ever reach the level of expanded thought or life-changing accomplishments as men.” (imagine!) I’ve been participating in this debate with voracity. I’ve pondered my exuberance and passion for such an activity, at times wondering if it’s in alignment with my ultimate priorities. After all, debating, or ‘arguing’ as it so very often deteriorates into, is hardly viewed by most as a spiritual or blissful experience. The truth is though, that I absolutely love it! The more rigid my opponent is in his/her thinking, often the higher the level of enjoyment I receive from it. I revel in the feeling of organizing my thoughts into arguments that are logically sound. I relish the feeling of my brain synapses firing as the wheels of my mind click into place to structure a well-reasoned argument or rebuttal.

In short, I’ve come to the conclusion that using my mind in such a way truly makes me feel alive. As such, it absolutely is right in line with my highest priorities and is undoubtedly aiding me towards achieving higher levels of spiritual growth and personal fulfillment. When debating in the past, I sometimes found myself becoming agitated and angered by my opponent. When this occurred I always knew it was time to quit. In this case though, I’m finding myself incredibly amused, genuinely interested and often surprised at the belief system this young man holds.

I’m not entirely sure where exactly my participation in this particular debate is leading me, but judging by the level of enjoyment and passion I’m experiencing because of it, my urgings to actively participate in it should not be dismissed!
